One instrument makes a sound, many instruments make a symphony!

The NJ Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy cancelled the Wednesday August 28 meeting for administrative reasons. The next Board meeting will be held on September 25, 2013. The Board understands there is confusion regarding the forms of touch therapy that are subject to the requirement to obtain a license, specifically forms of therapy that focuses on the energetic systems of the body. The Board continues to analyze this issue but until a final decision is rendered, urges all practitioners to apply for a license by the August 30, 2013 deadline.

The Statutes and Regulations, and the Minutes from the September 2012 meeting stating that Reiki is exempt from P.L.2007,c. 337, the "Massage and Bodywork Therapist Act" have also been removed from the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs website.

Please be advised that the appilcation for the "Current Practitioner" status expired on August 30, 2013. The Board has given no indication that they will consider extending the deadline. As per the regulations, these are now the options to apply for a licensing:
  1. EDUCATION: This option requires 500 hours of massage & bodywork education through an accredited NJ state school. (No time limit)
  2. EXAMINATION: For practitioners with no massage training, the MBLEx (https://fsmtb.org/content/?id=app) is the only viable option. (No time limit)
  3. ENDORSEMENT: This option is for practitioners who are licensed or certified in massage and bodywork in another state. (No time limit)
However, you may want to consider a fourth option;
